Cutting Health Insurance Costs

Surveys of self-employed individuals consistently show that one of their major concerns is the ability to buy affordable health insurance. One in 4 self-employed persons has no health insurance today even tough more than 70% of these people could afford to buy high quality health insurance if they had an effective buying strategy.1. Have a budget and set realistic expectations. Realize that the purpose of insurance is to cover unexpected and otherwise unmanageable expenses. Most good plans cover “ordinary and necessary medical expenses” but not your health club membership. Look for coverage that provides protection but avoid being drawn in by the marketing sizzle. Do not buy health insurance with the primary intention of picking up the cost of your existing ordinary medical expenses like prescriptions, routine dental care and annual check-ups. Health plans exist for almost every budget. Remember that no one is excluded from receiving medical care for an acute condition because of the type of their health insurance plan, but rather medical treatment may be denied because they dont have any insurance coverage at all.2. Realize that there are trade-offs in every health plan. The lowest priced high quality health insurance plans excluded coverage for pre-existing medical conditions and require periodic re-enrollment. It is often better to take the less expensive insurance any pay for small uncovered expenses yourself. But if you need to find full takeover coverage, then you cannot expect to be offered the insurers lowest rating.3. Think short term. Most individual health insurance policies for self-employed persons actually stay in force less than a year. Buy the plan that offers you the best deal right now and do not worry about whether it will be available in a year. In 12 months, a whole new generation of health plans will be available. It would not be smart to keep the same plan for more than two years because new plans are evolving rapidly. A plan that you bought more than 2 years old would not likely represent the best value for you today. 4. Use student medical plans and foreign travel plans if you qualify. These plans offer better deals than traditional coverage.5. Choose a higher deductible. By taking a $1000 deductible, you will save more than $1000 in premium payments over a year’s time. This should be an easy decision from a mathematical viewpoint, but still many people buy policies with a low deductible. It makes no financial sense to pay an insurance company $1000 in premiums for medical care that you could buy for $600 cash.6. Choose indemnity type coverage and avoid HMOs. This lets you and the doctor that you choose maintain control of your own medical care. This saves money in the long run by allowing the best course of treatment from the outset of any medical condition.7. Use the Internet. Technology now allow for online pricing and enrollment with policies issued within 24 hours. Savings have resulted in lower premium prices. Some plans offer premiums as low as $25 per month for catastrophic coverage for young people.8. Avoid the scams. Unfortunately, self-employed individuals are a prime target market of numerous health plan marketing scams. State insurance departments continuously shut down disreputable plans, but new ones sprout up just as quickly. Well-established and reputable health plans are obtained from well-established and reputable distributors. Good health plans do not use multi-level marketing schemes. All individuals handling your health plans enrollment should be licensed, bonded and insured. Beware of individuals who claim that they do not need an insurance license in your state or can not provide evidence of errors and omission coverage or a bond issued by an insurance company. Remember the old adage if it sounds too good to be true. This certainly applies when shopping for health insurance.

Taking Your Doggy To The Dog Park

by

Bobbie

If you are looking into taking your doggy to the local dog park then please check it out first before bringing your pet.

There is a rise in the forming of dog parks. There are now more households with dogs than with kids! And especially if you live in an apartment or house with little lawn space, a dog park will allow your dog some great exercise and a place to socialize for both you and your pet. You should have a park that is clean, enclosed, no-leash environment.

But you must follow the rules. First of all you cannot and should not bring your dog if they have not been neutered or spayed. And be honest, if your dog is on the aggressive side then you would not want to risk your dog hurting someones fur baby. Most parks should have two sections. One section is for larger dogs, and the other for smaller dogs. This is for safety and you should be mindful to place your dog in the correct section. Once there you should also watch that your dog is fitting in and just generally always watch your dog as you would if it was a small child. And you want to observe that the other dog owners are paying attention to their dog too. You should try first attending the park when there are just a few other dogs about to see how your dog fits in. Chances are the same dogs will go there on a routine time or day too.

Hopefully your park is also a decent size and has plenty of shady areas and benches. The dogs should have easy access to water and there should be pooper scoopers and trash bins available. Access to the park is for

dog owners only and hopefully friendly dog owners too. If you and your dog do not want to be sociable, then find another outlet for your dog s exercise routine.

The most important thing is that you want your dog to be able to play freely and safely. You can receive a ticket for failing to obey the sign that says larger dogs or smaller dogs when deciding which section to have your

pet go. Your dog may also be checked for a current dog license should anything go wrong. You should also consider talking to your veterinarian to see if they have treated or received any reports of dog attacks at your particular dog park.

And remember, your pet naps and sleeps some fourteen hours a day! So to make sure your doggy also has a great bed to sleep and nap on, look through our collection of plush doggy beds and crate pads that come in a variety of colors too. Remember you may also need a second pad. Keep a pad in the room of your house that doesn t have the crate in it so your dog can nap comfortably while you take the couch. Check out our website at www.buydoggybeds.com and see all that we have in dog beds and doggy bed sofas too. Free shipping. Let a sleeping dog lie…in comfort! Illinois high schools now required to buy insurance for athletes

Tuesday, August 6, 2013

This past Sunday, Illinois Governor Pat Quinn signed into law a bill known as “Rocky’s Law” that requires Illinois high schools, through the local school district, to buy catastrophic injury insurance up to US$3 million or medical costs for up to five years, whichever one comes first, that covers student athletes. The insurance must cover student athletes while they are competing.

The legislation was named after Rasul “Rocky” Clark. In 2000, the Eisenhower High School football player became paralyzed from the waist down as a result of a tackle during a game. His school based health insurance covered the costs of his medical treatment. A legislator sponsoring the bill noted that the need for this type of insurance is rare. Clark’s mother attended the legislation signing. Her son died last year.

Before parents can claim money from school insurance, they first must pay out US$50,000. Schools have until January 1, 2014 to comply with the law. Schools cannot charge students more than US$5 to defray the cost of insurance. If a school district already requires student to be covered through private health insurance, they are exempted from this law.

Gay teens assaulted and fined by police in Romania

Sunday, July 30, 2006

Two gay teens were fined and assaulted by police on 27 July at around 23:30 after cuddling, holding hands and kissing in a public park in Bucharest, Romania. According to their report, the two were subject to humiliation and physical assault by the officers and park guardians, who had approached them on the pretext of checking their identification cards. After beating up the two, one of the officers allegedly said that, “I should tie you up with chains and fuck you until you are cured of your sickness”. The two teens were each fined 500 lei (approximately 140 or USD179) for “disturbing the public peace“, the other alternative being a criminal record for the same offence. They consider this charge to be ungrounded and an act of discrimination against sexual orientation, considering that a heterosexual couple were not prosecuted for engaging in similar acts a few metres away. One of the teens stated that:

I will never forget the hypocrisy with which they said they only wanted to see our ID’s, that they were only doing their job, when at 10 metres distance, a girl and a boy were having sex in the bushes.

Additionally, the police officers threatened the teens that they would beat them again, with “no witnesses”, when they were off duty.

Homosexuality, including public manifestations of it, was decriminalised in Romania in 2001, when Article 200 of the Penal Code was fully repealed. Since 2000, the country has an anti-discrimination law which explicitly prohibits discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation. However, despite this, social attitudes remain conservative and discrimination remains widespread and rarely reported and investigated, with the 2006 Bucharest GayFest, held in early June, provoking a violent reaction from many passers-by, even if it took place successfully due to heavy police protection. Gay rights organisations have also complained that when the anti-discrimination law is applied, fines are too low (the average fine for an employer discriminating on the basis of sexual orientation is about 300 lei, or less than €100 or $128).

Reading websites written in the foreign language you’re educating yourself about is also an excellent path of learning vocabulary, spelling, and grammar basics. However, you must already possess a basic learning of the specific language otherwise you will fail to grasp the content you’re reading. You can acquire the basics from taking free (or paid) courses or playing online educational games.

*Video Conference Lessons

This is a new type of lesson to the language learning world thanks to the Internet. Learning with a distant teacher is a new progression. The option is wonderful because it s one-on-one with a tutor, or professor and you ll have the benefit of avoiding interruptions and studying at your own pace. Plus, you ll pick up clues about how your accent and pronunciation should sound. Although video education may be expensive, you gain the same advantages that a college language training would offer. But you ll have the convenience of training from your home office instead.

Woman killed in house fire in South Yorkshire, England

Monday, January 25, 2010

An elderly woman has died in a house fire in South Yorkshire, England. The woman, who is currently remaining unidentified, was blind and 93-years-old when her bungalow in Sheffield caught fire as a result of an accident in her kitchen yesterday afternoon.

An internal investigation into the fire has suggested that while the woman was cooking, she dropped a towel onto one of the stovetops while attempting to move a pan on the cooker. The towel then set alight. When she attempted to put out the fire, the towel dropped to the side of the cooker, alongside some plastic bags.

A smoke alarm sounded; a nearby resident heard the alarm and went to assist. The neighbour managed to break into the bedroom window of the bungalow in order to be able to get inside the building. The person made it to the hallway but had to double back upon seeing the fire and the smoke. It is believed that the woman was overwhelmed by the fumes given out from the plastic which was burning.

At around 1350 GMT, fire service workers entered the elderly lady’s residence to find her collapsed inside the kitchen. People investigating the incident have come to the conclusion that this particular fire was an accidental one. A spokesperson for the South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service noted: “Neighbours who tried to enter the property were fought back by smoke and flames.”

Candidates make campaign stop at trade fairs ahead of 2008 Taiwan Presidential Election

Friday, November 9, 2007

Thursday, November 8, two trade shows, named MEDIPHAR Taipei at the Taipei World Trade Center (TWTC) and Taipei Audio Video Fair at the TWTC and The Grand Hotel, opened in Taipei, Taiwan. Some politicians and government officials chose these events as an opportunity to promote their parties and campaign-coalitions ahead of the 2008 Taiwan Presidential Elections.

From the incumbent Pan-Green Coalition, President of the Republic of China Chen Shui-bian, Premier of Republic of China Chang Chun-hsiung, and spokesman for the Executive Yuan Jung-tai Cho visited the two shows successively and were innundated by Taiwanese media. President Chen avoided answering questions on the hot topic of commodities prices, addressing only those about the medical industry development, overseen by Sheng-mao Hou, Minister of Health.

From the Pan-Blue Coalition, 2008 vice-presidential candidate, and former Premier, Vincent Siew participated the opening of the Taipei Audio Video Fair at The Grand Hotel. He criticized on the economy policy and remarked: “The ruling party [DPP] doesn’t have a good track record, and some industries weren’t be supported in timely manner so that they lost some opportunities. I sincerely hope the government can appropriately assist the audio and video industries in marketing good brands and products to the world.”

Also, current Democratic Progressive Party legislator Wang Shih-chien was invited to give a violin performance and sing a Taiwanese song. The events at the Taipei World Trade Center proved to be quite a platform for the candidates running in the 2008 Taiwan Presidential Elections.
